GSR Price check/other questions.
Hello all. I have happily had my 1994 Integra LS for about a year now, and am researching the possibility of getting either a GSR, or a Type-R. I am aware of the many swaps/bolt-on procedures to produce more power from the LS, but I am just asking about the GSR for now.
How much can I expect to spend, here on the east coast, for a lower-mileage, 1998-99 GSR? I know the KBB value is 8500-9500, is this pretty accurate for the market right now? I will be looking to purchase in August.
The LS has been great to me, always reliable, pretty peppy, and has the best all around sporty package for the money when I bought it last year. While it still has plenty of life left in it (only 113k, dealer maintained whole life), I really do like the GSR's sportier package offering, and now that I can afford one, I'm more interested in it than ever.
Which brings up a 2nd question. Would it be worth the extra $$$ for a 97-98 Type R over the GSR? I have just begun autocrossing this summer, and plan to do more next season and so on. Is the Type-R worth the extra 5k+ or is this money better spent upgrading the suspension/handling and power on the GSR up to Type-R spec? i noticed there isn't a HUGE power difference between TR and GSR, which raises the handling question.
I am still searching through the forums for answers, so forgive me if the topic has been discussed. I'd appreciate any answers from GSR owners, or LS owners like myself, but who have had the chance to ride in the GSR/TR, which i haven't, hence this thread
Thank you.

I think you should also consider the rarity of the Type-R. I heard a lot of people giving up on it because people are asking too much, or they can't find one.
You're right about the KBB price, but the market price for GS-Rs seem a little bit higher. I just bought a 98 GS-R that is gonna be picked up next week for $8K with KBB valued at ~8700, but I got hooked up. I would've paid about $9K or more if I didn't know the person I am guessing.

Ah, very nice. Congrats.
Yeah, the Type-R is probably a bit too much wishful thinking. It may also be a bit too much car, and too noticable and subject to parking lot incidents.
So would you think a 98+ GSR would be a pretty good step in the right direction?
I have done the pricing, and to get my car up to par with the GSR, I'd probably have to spend close to 5k, this is suspension/engine/wheel-tires/and body paint. (couldn't hurt to touch up the spoiler/mirrors/hood on the LS)
Since I paid 4k for the LS, this would put me in the 9k region total, and if I can find a 98+ GSR for around 8k, put some money into the suspension/wheel-tires, it's around the same price, if not a little closer to 10k, but I would have a much newer, better condition Integra for around the same price as upgrading the LS.
Ok, so now I'm really just explaining to you guys what i think would be best, but let me know if you generally agree.
Comments, please do post, I'm open-minded at this point, and thank you in advance.

I just bought my 98 GS-R about a month ago with all this shit for 10k:
81.5mm Probe Racing Pistons - Ceramic Coated, IB Spec Forged H Beam Rods, ARP Head Studs, Hondata IM Gasket, Stock Intake, Header, Exhaust, Cat, ACT Heavy Duty Clutch & Pressure Plate, Acura OEM Floormats, Brushed Aluminum Accent Trim Pieces, Shift Knob, Pedals, Supersonic Blue Pearl paint, Ice Blue Metallic Flake added by body pro's, Kaminari sideskirts/rear lip, All red taillights, H&R Sport Lowering Springs, Tokico Illumina Shocks, 15" 5-Zigen FN01R - White, Toyo T1-S Proxes 205/55/ZR15, Brembo Drilled Brake Rotor Upgrade, Hawk brake pads, OEM Rear Brakes, Viper Alarm System, Alpine CD Head Unit, Audiobahn 6.5" Seperates up Front, Kenwood 5.25" Coaxials in Back, Kenwood 800w 5ch Amp, Soundstream SPL12 12" Subwoofer w/ Ported Enclosure
at first i thought 10k was way too much but i figured hes already gone ahead and done pretty much all the cosmetic/suspension/wheel work i would have wanted to do and just saved me the time. woulda came to around 10k or more anyway. now its time for turbo! but just be patient and wait for the right car.

Clean-looking car
Yeah, I will be waiting around for the right one... or take the plunge and try to find an 02 RSX-TypeS, who knows. But thanks for your post!

If you ask me, a type-R is not worth the extra 5k. Just get a gsr, and for 5k in the engine, you would anihilate a type-r. The gsr is very capable of walking all over the type-r when modded, even if you go NA
