Default B18C1 Bottom End Rebuild Advice

Hi All,
I'm new to the website and am here for one reason. To get the best bottom end rebuild kit out there, just need to be pointed in the right direction. I totally F@cked up my motor today, I cried, cried, then I cried some more. Just as I was pulling into the dealership, it was making a wretched noise, and its the crank and rod bearings apparantly, and I got it there right before it threw a rod thank God. The motor is salvagable, and Honda of Peoria's top tech guy is going to completely blueprint the motor for me and make the bottom end perfect with a new bottom end kit. The kit he showed me looks pretty nice, its from Summit, its a Eagle performance bottm end kit that includes forged pistons, rods, crankshaft, all the rings etc. to do the install, and its $1800. It makes the compression 9.1 and he says it'll make the bottom end so strong I can turbo the shit out of it later if I want AND add nitrous and still have a reliable B18. I'm psyched, but I also want to know if there is a different manufacturer that would be better to go with for a bottom end kit. I also need a new oil pump, if anyone can help me find the parts I need at better prices, this experience at honda-acura.net would be totally useful. If not, any advice at all is certainly appreciated. I love my GS-R, and am looking foward to getting some more HP out of it. It just happens to be that hte rebuild on my motor will be cheaper to make a stronger motor out of it than it would be to fix it with HONDA parts. Thanks everyone for any input. Again, I want the STRONGEST bottom end kit out there for hte money, so throw em at me guys...
THanks everyone

Oh yeah, I also need some rear end body work too, like a totally new hatchback, and new tail lights, new bumper, and the new trim piece above the bumper but below the tail light. Any ideaz where I can get the best price on body parts? Also, if I buy a cooler rear bumper, do I have to buy the front clip and side skirts with it as a package deal? Thanks again. Anyone got a wrecked integra that I can steal the hatch off of? lol

First off, welcome to HAN. Glad you came.

I do have a concern about this rebuild....is the block going to be re-sleeved with reinforced cylinder bores? Because the Eagle kit doesn't come with new sleeves if memory serves.

If the cylinder bores are left free-standing [as they are stock], you'll still be limited to about 7 to 8 psi of boost. The drop in compression will help, but not by much.

If you're spending the money for forged internals and lowering your compression for boost, I'd strongly recommend installing some form of a cylinder bore brace.

Don't know much about building bottom ends but with your question on the rear clip, if you're going to get an aftermarket or "cooler" rear bump, you can always buy those separately, but the thing is, it'll look weird with the rest of your car if your tail looks great while the side skirts and front are stock.

Nowadays the cool thing to do is a lip kit, which uses stock bumpers and skirts and adds a subtle flair. To buy these things, I'd be patient and keep watching the HAN classifieds, honda-tech.com classifieds, and the team-integra.net buy/sell forum. People always throw up parts at ridiculously low prices and you'll save anywhere from 50%-75% off. I'm an example, I bought a DC 4-2-1 ceramic header for $60 because some guy was in a rush to sell parts.

Welcome aboard. I can assist u in some ways, as i just finished my build and turbo install on my B18C1. First off that price is high for those parts, unless it includes sleeves, which im sure it doenst, especially since a Acura dealership will install it. I purchased my Eagle H beam rods for about 310 shipped, brand new. I purchased 9:1 OS CP forged pistons for about 400 shipped. I purchased the Federal Mogul bearing kit which was around 100, although ACL makes a great kit also. This includes rod bearings, crank bearing and thrust washers. So i was lookin at under a grand for parts on the bottom end, and those are all great reliable parts. Anyway as far as the crank goes, did u damage the crank at all? have they miked it up and seen if its outta spec? if not id recommend keeping the stock GSR crank, it can handle alot of power. As far as power goes a general rule of thumb is roughly 350 whp out of out stock sleeves with forged internals, of course this is based on a very conservative tune done correctly. Stock sleeves are by no means weak, and will not fracture under a decent amount of load. There are plenty of guys running 12psi + on a stock bottom end, with forged internals up and beyond that will not be a problem, with correct tuning of course. In fact a guy on HT has a GSR stock bottom end pushing 540 to the wheels on stock sleeves, like i said, its all in the tune, and going 9:1 is a great start. Just remember the tuning is key with boost, dont go cheap and do a FMU/missing link or the AFC Hack, they both screwed me twice. GO uberdata. Anyway good luck with the setup, take your time and do it right. Ive been building/saving money for parts and turbo shit for over a year and researching for even longer, and still have many kinks to work out. Take yur time and do it right the first time. And dont waste money, there are some great deals out there. You can email me if u have more particular questions or questions about places to buy parts. Halicitosis77@yahoo.com
I would have liked to have someone helping me out like i am when i was in yur shoes. Have fun.
Dan
