is it ok to put synthetic amsoil 10w-40 SG class oil in my 1992 D SERIES SI TRANSMISSION??? WHAT ABOUT SWITCHING TO AMSOIL FOR ALL THE OILS?
Could this cause any problems at all??

Amsoil is good for your engine, but for your tranny stick with Honda MTF.

 

I am going to use only Honda MTF and Honda 5w-20 that you can buy at the honda north where I live. But its a hard decide if I should switch to Amsoil in the engine with the Amsoil filter as well . The car has never had synthetic in it so it might be better, allthough it wont hurt to switch to Amsoil right?

What could happen if racers like the ones in the honda west coast challenge used just regular honda genuine 5w-20 oil in their high performance engines for a full race of hard driving?? Just for conversation cause i am bored!!

 

First of all, you want some form of manual tranny fluid in your trans. Motor oil just doesn't have the right additives.

Second, the weight should be 10w30, not 10w40.


As for the racing question... it depends. One race, probably not much. I assume they'd lose a touch of horsepower because some of them are likely using 0w30.

The problem comes in long term usage of "cheap" oils... over time they just don't take care of your engine as well as the more expensive stuff, which typically has more additives, is synthetic, etc. For temporary or emergency use you can use damn near any oil that is the correct weight and not have any problems.

 

Honda MTF is the best choice by far, from my experience. Keeps the synchros quiet and working properly.

 

I don't like Amsoil. Their sale tactic sounds very uneducated and backward. Their webpages look very unprofessional. Their attacks on other oil is very baseless. They make their oil sounds like snake oil.
