stock m3 e36 vs. modded rsx-s
Nice race, and a good example of why I like to run someone from both a roll and a stop if possible. Especially when running RWD vs. FWD. From a stop, you probably would have taken him.
When I was running my '67 Bug it was the same. The FWD guys would think they were awesome beating me from a roll, then from a stop I would almost be topped out before they could even start to catch me.

Not necessarily, bugs are low end rides, lots of torque out of the hole, good traction because they are RWD with the motor and transaxle out back. Lots of low end torque means quick off the line, unless they have a significant amount of head work and HD valve springs, they peter out above 5500 RPM. I have driven bugs that will run 12's, but won't go much over 100 mph due to gearing and the limited rev thing. 1800 lbs plus 200 hp equals some eye popping acceleration

I remember an article in a VW magazine that discussed this problem. Someone had a Bug that wouldn't top 120, then he put a wing on it to improve airflow and create downforce, and his next run topped 160. No other modifications.
