Default I think I got Water in Intake..

I was driving home today in the rain and i noticed upon acceleration that my car started jittering...the RPM's were going up a bit then goes back down, even when stepping on the gas...Scared a bit i let go, letting it ease around 20mph...I didnt think much of it cause 2 weeks ago it it happened during a small drizzle... I have a CAI but i have the Bypass valve...I know it only helps if submerged but i was hitting puddles left and right by accident.... The jitter came and went like 2 or 3 times then when i got home i turned the car off and back on and it's running fine...I check out the fliter for the intake and it's SOAKING wet...when i turned it off. water was gushing back out the filter...

I was just wondering if this will kill my engine.. I'm scared to turn the car back on....it was raining hard but not until i was ready to come home ...i knew i shouldnt have drove my car..

I highly doubt you got water sucked up through your intake. I have a CAI with out a bypass valve and I have had no problems here in Utah. :dunno:

You sure? The filter is exposed...like if you were standing by the passanger door and look towards the bumper...you can see the intake cause the splash gaurd isn't there...i also have a 1.75 inch drop in the front too...so the random jittering during heavy rain is something different?

I blew up my D15B7 from hydrolocking it.

You NEED to have that fender insert in there man... you're drenching your filter with water. It will not allow the filter to filter like it's supposed to after a while and you're just sucking water...

I took the extension for the CAI off and put the filter on the top half in the engine bay in the mean time until i can replace the fender insert...

I'm just more worried to as if this will cause any permenant damage?

Yea my filter was just drenched like crap...
My fender insert had to be removed when an SUV side swipped me and took out my fender , bumper and door but i never bothered to get that part replaced..

As long as you don't let water sit in the cylinder and there wasn't enough in there to jack up the rod/piston you should be ok.

Thanks...

I just took off the extension to the CAI to make it a semi-short ram..
I ran it down the street to go get some gas and it's running okay now. Sounds a lil more louder with the extension off .

Thanks all for not flaming my idoicy.

While everyone's jumping straight on the intake as the issue, I'm not so easily convinced. I drove through some awfully heavy rain (Michigan) with my iceman on w/o fender liners in, no problems whatsoever.

The two keys that I noticed are that the car was "jittery" and that it had also happened during a "small drizzle"

I think it's far more likely that you have some loose or bad electrical connections somewhere that are getting a little wet and not liking it. You'll find out for sure next time it rains and you have only the SRI section of your intake on.
