96 civic ex/225k miles.what should be replaced?
I have a 96 EX w/225k miles with everything original except the timing belt and water pump, thermostat, radiator cap, fan temp switch, and tires, brakes, axles, battery..etc... It's still running strong and I am hoping to keep owning it till whenever....
My question is, at this kind of mileage, what should I worry about that will fail? alternator? fuel pump? oil pump? or with the hondas these won't have to be replaced?
Thanks for any advice....

Replace it all.. Hondas usally can rack up some pritty hi miles without problems..I once had a 94 accourd I used to run from state to state.. I gave it to a friend of mine with over 400,000 miles. He thought he was the shit but he blew it up in a few days by over reving and not proper care for a car with that many miles..But I would say go for the obvious and replace all the standard stuff.

Most likely, any part that moves or comes into contact with things that move, I would inspect. I would note: CV Axles, steering rack (no leaks).
and yes :eek3: That IS alot of miles for a 96! Where do you drive?

He must be in sales of some sorts...
I would look at doing the starter, alt, blower motor, all the hoses if you haven't yet, as well as all the belts, fluids (including power steering, tranny, brake, cooling) You may also want to consider doing the brake hoses, struts and mounts, tierod ends, PCV valve, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Get your valves adjusted and also get an alignment done.
Basically go through the owners manual and do everything it says. It gives you a pretty in-depth list of what to do at various miles.
Lastly, check the air pressure in your spare tire. You may have one, but is it full?

Thanks for all your replies.
I basically commute to work daily with 70+ miles of highway miles roundtrip every weekday since 96 when I bought it new....and it went thru 100k...then 200k...and now 225k +....
Sounds like time for a new car....if so many things have to be replaced like the alternator, fuel pump, oil pump, etc....
BTW, what's the most number of miles driven on a 96 civic that anyone has heard of ? My friend once had donated his 89 civic with 260k miles with a failed alternator and a noisy engine....Hondas are really cool and reliable! I just took it to the slopes at the Sierra in a 4 hour drive each way after I replaced the axles. Really nice car.
