Default Civic transmission problems

Buddy has 2002 LX commuter ride that had to have 1+2 replaced at about 35 k miles, then again at 60 k(including new case) now at 80 k it is starting to make noise and pop oout of 1+2 again. Is this a common issue with these vehicles, tried a search to no avail. He will probably get it fixed before the extended warranty goes then dump it, but he was expecting multiple hundereds of thousands of trouble free miles like all the other hondas he has had

So I guess if this is viewed 40 times with no answers it is not a comon problem. The guy with the car is contemplating a lemonlaw suit against American Honda. The service guys are telling him they can't duplicate the problem and he will have to pay the labor if they break it down and can't find anything, despite the fact that it has already been allegedely repaired twice for the same problem

I've never heard of that problem. 80k is a lot of miles for a 2002. Not that it would break because of that, but that's still a lot of miles.

If I were him, I would try to have honda put in a new transmission while it is under warrenty since he has had this problem twice before.

My friends with 7 gens haven't had any problems with their trannys, and they drive the shit out of their cars. Makes me wonder how he drives :ugh:

He does a long freeway commute. His comment was, "If 5th gear was worn out, I'd say okay, my bad" but he drives very sedately around town, and spends 95% of his time going 75 on the open road. The dealer is being kinda crappy about it too. If it were me, I would get it fixed and ditch the car, but he is a little more confrontational. He had about 300k miles on his 92 VX before he gave it to his mother(He wants it back for a hybrid when she is done with it, so no it is not goig to be for sale) and was super bummed that the new civic seems to have a manufacturing defect

Tell him to fix the car and sell it. Then he can build a hybrid out of the VX :rick: I have never heard of this problem before with the 7G civics. I would think that there is something internaly wrong with the tranny that they are missing when fixing it that keeps causing the ploblems with the synchros. :dunno:

mt buddy kept blowing out 1+2 on his seventh gen and they recently just put in a new tranny for him and the problem went away....maybe they are having some quality control issues??

My guess is that there is a defect in the shift forks that is causing the sychro problems. If there is something wrong with the shift fork it could bind the sychros and cause wear on them.

I guess you have never taken a tranny apart. :chuckles: I do all of my own tranny work so I know the internals pretty well.
