Default B20A? Anyone have any info?

I know a guy selling a B20A and was wondering if the tranny (which he said was hydraulic) is compatible with all the other B-series motors. I read a few other posts and i keep seeing that the B20A isnt worth building. Not worth making an Ls/Vtec or antyhing. All of your opinions would be greatly apreciated. Thanks

the B20A is an oddball B-series. that is NOT the B20 people want right now. the B20 you want is the B20B or B20Z or JDM B20B (pretty much the same as the US B20Z). the B20A is from the old school prelude 2.0. its got like 83mm bore with the largest stroke among the B-series. u dont want a large stroke, but u do want a larger bore.... so thats why you get the B20B/Z... its got the same crank as the one from an LS B18B. still not as great as a GSR or B16 or B17 crank, but better than the crap B20A crank.

B20A is the red-headed step child of Honda engines. B-series trannies don't swap to it, and for the most part, B-series aftermarket parts don't work either. Basically only get a B20A if you have the old 2.0L Prelude and need a new engine.

thanx for dissing the 3rd gen... but to elaborate..

yes actually the integra series trannies will swap into it.. i know of 2.. possibly 3 that it has been completely sucessful with...

infact most other B series parts are compatible with our motor.. most people don't want to bother putting in the money.. i don't blame them...

o and btw.. B20A is the jdm version of the USDM which is the b20a5... you either got the 146hp or maybe you got yourself a windy lil 160hp version.. very rare to find... only a dyno would actually tell you if you got that one unless you have paper work...

anyone have the bore/stroke of a B20Z and the B20A?

without knowing the blocks that well (heh what can i say im mostly F and H) I wonder if you could retain that long stroke and just increase the bore. would be a nice lil torque box.

if the b20a has a poor rod/stoke ratio is it prone to rod failure?

2 or 3 isn't exactly a grand number in the scheme of things. You can MAKE anything work with the time and money, but the point is that it IS NOT a direct swappable b-series engine. You have to do your homework and usually talk with someone that has spent more time and effort along with throwing money at a problem to find a solution unless you plan on doing it yourself.

Again, get a B20A if you have an older prelude and need an engine. Otherwise, have fun lightening your wallet.

what about swapping b20a cams into a b18a. I already have 98'ls cams in it. Ive measured and they are bigger with a more aggressive downside ramp which is cleary visible just by looking at them. Runout, endplay, and journals are all the same numbers also. I wondered about valve bind with stock springs? It doesnt seem to be that much bigger to me......any thoughts on this swap?

Anybody know if this will work or not and why?

Thanks
Chris

everybody is saying that everything from the b20a is crap. I'm not so sure about that. Im in the process of degreeing the b20a cams to go into my b18a....also im working on the auto/manual swap and was wondering if i could use the b20a tranny. Im assuming it will bolt to a b18 block and it should be geared lower than the ls tranny cause it came in a sport(Si) model?

Anyone know anything bout this?
