Default turning a gs into a type r

i want to put an integra type r engine in my car....would there be any huge complications that would make this a huge mistake? and after its done are there any special cautions i would have to take? one more thing....is it possible to find itr engines and how much do they cost?

nope no complications at all...straight bolt in. at most there might have to be a couple wires run (for vtec) but thats no a big deal at all. you can get the motor through a couple different places online, hondamotorsonline.com is one place.

personally i wouldnt get a type-r motor. they are overpriced and for the price difference between the gsr and type r, you could put some mods on the gsr motor. especially if you ever plan on getting a turbo kit, then definitely dont get the type r.

instead of sinking over 6k in a itr motor...you have several options (cheapest to most expensive)

gsr or b16a head on your b18b block...it's pretty strong and cheap to do

turbo your b18b and you can run around 8-10psi and get more power than an itr swap

gsr block/engine tranny...as strong as a lsvtec but costs more

build your own crvtec...180hp 180lb ft tq to the wheels when built correctly on stock internals

itr swap

I disagree. The lsvtec motor is not strong with a stock LS block. VTEC motors live at high rpm, and that is where the LS block fails. If you want to rev the LS block from 7500-8000 rpm on a daily basis reliably, which is where it will make good power, you cannot leave the LS block stock. At the least you need ARP rod bolts, the stock LS bolts like to stretch under high rpm stress. It's a good idea to also use the crank girdle from the GSR to keep the crank rigid at higher rpms, as well as install oil squirters like on the GSR to help cool and lubricate the wrist pin. If you want an lsvtec to be cheap, it will not be strong.

Yea id say if your gonna go LS/vtec just rebuild the whole block and play it safe, my friend is rebuilding his LS block with all aftermarket type R parts. Im interested to see what kinda power he will be making.
