Default Question JDM or USDM Engines

I heard all kinds of stuff....I don't know what's up with it....

Like the car won't pass emissions....Right?...Why not?

I heard that in JDM engines they are ran on higher octain in Japan and if you run them on 91 they will create a ping....Is this true?

I can't even remember all the stuff I've heard to write it out....Can someone please shed some light?

JDM engines are so cheap and easy to get compaired to finding a USDM....

Thanks

run some searches...there will be lots of viewpoints on it all.
91 or 93 octane is fine. i run it on my h22a's all the time and never have they pinged...nor have they failed emissions either.

I will be getting smogged tested in a month and then not for 2 years.........I also will be moving an a year to a no emissions state...(or they don't test the car annualy)

As far as getting it smogged, it isn't a problem so long as you can prove that the engine you put in is functionally identical to the engine you removed. You couldn't smog an OBD=II car with an OBD-I engine. You could however smog an OBD-I car with an OBD-II engine because its newer. Regardless though, never admit to a full engine swap. There's lots more rules concerning that, than if say... you just swapped the block, because yours was cracked right? Obviously though if you put an H22 into a Civic or Integra though, it wouldn't matter... they'd consider it a full engine swap.

Best thing to do is check out the rules in your area. I know most states have pretty easy to find regulations.
