Default Is LS/Vtec worth it?

I'm about 99.9% sure about swapping an LS/Vtec into my 89" Civ4-door. But before I go through with it, I wanted some feedback. First off, how much more HP & Torque does the Vtec hybrid generate, than the stock B16a? I know a B16a is rated 160, but how much of that is to the wheels? Because a stock Ls/Vtec (b16a head & B18a block) dynoed at about 145. I just wanna know if I can make some kick ass power with this thing. Or if it's even worth it in general. Any comments or opinions would be extremely helpful

its a pita but it does yield very nice hp and torque ratings the bigger bottom end (more displacement) typically means more torque thruout the rpm range. no exact numbers for u though.

now that you've made your mind up, dont go halfassing it and just throw the head on there and think you can rev to 8k.

Actually, I'll be installing the B18A and tranny and all that other crap myself. I'll be getting the head put on professionally. I'm not ready to do that yet, I'd surely screw it up. But, I know not too drive like an a$$ and rev too hard, because of the rod ratio. But thanx for the info.

It's my opinion that LS VTec is only a good idea if you already have an LS block or a Vtec head. It ends up costing quite a bit and getting very involved if you are starting from scratch. Honda made an engine very similar to LS VTec, it's called GSR. I know the numbers aren't the same, but the idea is similar. A 1.8L block with a VTec head.
Though, i think you should do whatever you want, i know people who have done LS VTec just to say they could.
