Default D16A1 to ???

i'm a noob, when it comes to the technical aspects of these motors.

i've got a D16A1 and its prolly gonna need a head.. what other heads will work on this motor so i can get some more power outa it?

i figure i'f i'm gonan replace it i wanna replace it with something a little more worthwhile than the stock...

i believe that no other head fits the D16A1 - why do you need a new head? you can increase performance with a set of cams, adjustable cam gears, intake, header and better exhaust.

Default well

well, i haven't taken it apart yet, but, its overheating and blowin all the coolant out of the radiator.. no water in oil, none come out the tailpipe. runs smooth but is pretty gutless.. (grandma in a geo could outrun me light to light)

i just figure if i get this thing apart and have to replace a head, i'm gonna do it right the first time.

if it does have a cracked head, i was thinkin on puttin a different head on it for more power, but if that can't be done then.. i want to pull the hole pile out and replace it with something...

what will "bolt in" with little modification in this car? and would it bolt to this tranny or should i just swap it out too? or should i just fix this stock engine and deal with geo's passin me up?

i've been looking everywhere for ideas, but am not coming up with much on what i can do with it..

The biggest problem is the car it is in is much heavier than the Honda counterparts. The D16A1 head really likes some good port work in the bowl area and I like to use AEM adjustable gears to tighten the lobe separation up on the cams (advancing the intake about 2-3 degrees will make the engine think it has more compression than it does). Also if you have an 86-87 they have lower compression pistons than the 88-89 models.
