Valve spring and ret. install
im sure this subject is covered somewhere on here, but i searched and found nothing...im planning on buying skunk2 racing springs, tit retainers and stage 2 cams for my 94 GSR soon...i was wondering how difficult the install would be for the springs and ret, exc. cams...is it neccessary to take it to a maching shop, or is this possible with garage tools, also anything else i should know before diving into this? thanx in advance
You mainly need a spring compressor that will fit down in the head, as you can swap out all those components without removing the head from the engine, as long as you have a way to keep the valves up in place [compressed air or nylon rope]. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward after you remove the cams and the springs are staring you in the face.

Its way easy if you have the head off, and make a special little tool for it. After trying for two hours to get one on, we made fashioned a little tube with an 1"x1/2" notch in the bottom and slid that down over stem onto the retainer. Then we used a normal spring compressor (looks like a big c-clamp) and the other 15 took about 20 minutes.
