Default OBD1 motor in an OBD0 car

I recently was asked a question:

we have an OBD1 motor (92 GSR) in an OBD0 chassis (integra 89). The harness connectors at the firewall don't mate.

We are planning on running an OBD1 p72.

Can anyone direct me to any thread on how to solve this dilemma.

Any help is much appreciated.

ok, I sourced a B16 chassis harness last night, off of a friend's B16/CRX.

the motor is a b17a, which is essentially a stroked B16, if I understand correctly

We're going to splice the OBD1 connectors onto the OBD0 chassis harness.

I'm guessing I need to find a resistor box, to make this complete

any input, would be greatly, greatly, aprreciated.

Default What's up?

Your best bet would to be to swap over the Pre-OBD (the 89's harness) onto the new motor and plug that into the chassis harness. I've seen a conversion harness that allows you to plug an OBD I ECU into a pre-OBD harness but you do need to add quite a few wires (VTEC, knock ... anything the OBD I ECU wants to see). You'll also probably have to rewire the injectors and distributor (so you can use the OBD I stuff with the pre-OBD harness) and convert to a 4-wire O2 sensor. I'm sure there is more, but that would probably be your best bet. Good luck. Seeya.

I've not seen a B18C1 swap in the pre 90 Integra's so have you done any research? I'm not aware of a mount kit for the motor in that chassis, not to say that there isn't one.
But to cover your Q's about OBDI in an OBD0 chassis, basically you need to transfer the OBD0 harness onto the B18C1. You will need to lengthen, shorten, and add some extra wires for the VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch, knock sensor and IAB. You will also need to rewire the injector clips and distributor plug. After that you could purchase an OBD0 to OBDI conversion harness and the ECU will plug in without any extra wiring.
You will not need an injector resistor box if you plan to run the complete OBDI motor with the OBDI injectors and ECU.

so hee is where I am:

The motor is a direct bolt-in, becuase it is same generation
It's a 90 integra GS(OBD0), and the motor is a 92 integra (OBD1)GSR motor.

That motor is the B17A, I don't _think_ it has the IAB. I'd like a definite answer on that.

So all the fricking shop manuals are for the whole generation 90-93. Problem is, they rolled out OBD1 in 92.

So the shop manuals are all stupid and incomplete.

I'm grabbing an b16a harness, and since the B17a is just a factory stroked B16, hopefully, the harnesses will be color coded appropriately.

I'm hoping to change the square OBD1 plugs on the engine into OBD0 round plugs.

Dammit, but I'd be MUCH happier if I could get a refrence to properly find and label all the wires, instead of just praying the color codes are the same between years. grrr

Anyone have experience with the Helms manuals. Like if it says 1992 model year, will it be the generation (90-93) or will it truely be the model year???

Thanks guys,

Ok, ran into some trouble with the conversion harness, since this was like one of the first cars ever to be OBD1, it's a little different than a traditional OBD1 harness.

If anyone can get me a pinout diagram/list for a 92 integra GSR (P61 ecu) I would love them like a thai whore.

Well the ones I have seen have been a complete pain.

Most the people I have seen swapping B16/B18 into a pre OBD vehicle end up swapping out the entire chassis harness because it ends up being a bit easier process sometimes.

Since you already have the conversion harness but are still running into issues i couldn't tell you without looking at it. Hope I at least added something to this topic.:happysad:

I finished this last summer. I just banged my way through it, no worries. Ran like a champ, hahah, but look how ****ing hideous my first harness was, hahah

****er boned me on 400 bucks for the job though.

Anyone want a slightly repossesed OBD1 engine harness?
