yah white smoke is burning oil in the combustion chamber, blueish smoke is gas not being burned or a dead cylinder no spark something like that, if ur blowing white smoke there is a good possibility ur rings are fried, could be other things, but rings are the most common, what u want to do is a compression check, go to autozone and rent their little machine to check the compression or go buy one for like 30 bucks, if the cylinder compression goes up to where it is supposed to be but then the needle falls slowly that means uve got air escaping past the pistons, u can use a heavier weight oil to stop oil consumption and make it harder for the oil to get into the combustion chamber but more than likely ur gonna need a rebuild, but a rebuild isnt that cheap, requires pulling out the pistons. do a compression check first to see whats going on.

yah probably because oil is leaking thru somehow when the car is sitting, cars normally smoke less and have less NOx coming thru once the cat is heated up also, might want to have ur catalitic converter checked.

If it only smokes during warm up it sounds like your valve seals are going bad and leaking.

yah and when it is resting (car off on that particular valve is open it is leaking oil into the combustion chamber which is burning off when the car is turned on

depends on the engine condition, b4 going thru inspection run a higher octane gas, change ur spark plugs, possibly retard ur timing a little bit to burn out more gas in the combustion chamber, and get the catalytic converter really hot, rev the engine a little bit while waiting if it takes a while, dont turn ur car off, to keep it nice and toasty

aww a valve job shouldnt cost that much...of course that leads to other things too :chuckles: like rebuilding the whole engine when the new valves up the compression
