Default compatable tranny

i have a '97 ex 5 speed coupe. my tranny's going finally cause im at about 85k miles and i've abused the car so much. im turbo'd and running 10lbs, so i have a decent amount of torque. any suggestions on campatable trannies or which one would work best gear ratio wise? i just dont wanna get whored into buying another stock rebuilt one from the dealer or even from my mechanic for a grand or two. thanks....

well...if you are making a decent amount of power...you could try an lx tranny...the gears are hella long and if you have the nuts for it could be really quick... 1st=40, 2nd=65, 3rd=100, 4th=limiter

something to think about

Any D series transmission will work. The EX has the highest ratios, which is typically what you want to stick with unless you can't keep traction. Or you have a stump puller 1st.

Also, I have an EX tranny for sale if you are interested.

it's just a small 15g turbo w/ fmic and some other stuff tuned up a lot w/ a port+polish. stock cams tho for now. i was impressed, since people like jkan from HAN has a better turbo than me, but was dyno'd at less. it's prolly cause im running more boost or something. i wanna get the new tranny in and switch my new clutch over and try my hand in the 1/4 mile. with much luck and a good launch im hoping for the very high 13's. maybe i'll just get the ex cause i know ill like it anyways. in high gears is the lx stronger??? for example: if i wanted to top out my car and redline @ 7k in top gear (maybe someday) would it be faster????

i would think so...i know the lx gears are longer than the ex gears...100 in 3rd at 7000 fourth gear hardly pulls its so high...with the power to back up those gears....you would have monster high speed (better get those z rated tires )

and first gear is still low enough to give you hella acceleration
