LS/vtec or GSR?
Define what you mean by better. Neither one is just "better." Given enough money you can make whatever level of output you desire with either motor.
You should be asking yourself how much money you want to spend and how much power you want to make, and then figure out a way to do that.

It sounds like like you really want to built the ls/vtec and are just looking for someone to agree with you. If that is what you really want to do then I say go for it. However if you have several of the more respected voices on the board suggesting the GSR is a better choice then it might not be a bad idea to take a closer look at it and not make a choice based just on your emotions.

For turbo, I'd stick with LS just to save money.

LS/VTEC waste of time and money. Boost the LS, or just buy the GSR.

But boost above 8-10 PSI, and you really need some kinda standalone fuel managment, plus tuning. And a 3bar MAP.
Just hoping to give you some info so you can make an informed decision.

a gs-r running 10-12 lbs of boost with some nice tuning doesn't need sleeves or anything (keep it tuned!!!) and you'll be getting about 250whp or more with a decent turbo setup. 300 is within reach too without sleeving and pistons. anything more you should build it. a gs-r at the same boost level as an ls will make more boost.
