Need some ideas about a swap for 2000 civic si
I was on my way to work last thursday, and somehow i managed to crack the #4 piston... on a friggin 2 year old car with 34k miles.
I think Honda's going to screw me out of my warranty for putting an intake/exhaust on my car.
Here's my question. If my current engine isnt damaged too badly, i was thinking of putting high compression pistons in. I would put low compression in and slap on a turbo, but i dont have the money.
should i do that, or should I swap in a bigger engine (like a B18)?
How hard is it to swap a GSR engine into a 2000 civic si? Price estimates would help out alot too.
Let me know what you guys think...
Jason

Honda has to prove that your mods caused the problems. And yours didn't, plus a lot Honda dealerships sell intakes, headers, and so forth.
I really don't think they'll screw you on it.
If they do, rebuild your current motor for N/A or turbo or whatever. You have everything already just use the money to build up your b16. It has a lots of potential.

just take off the intake and exhaust and replace it with the factory. you do still have them right. and for a cheap swap you could get an ls 1.8 block and slap your head on it. i dont think they are too much. should be able to find one for under $500. if your gonna go all-out engine swap go for the h22. but i guess im just a little biased on that.
i agree with magic_ninja, slap the factory parts back on. chances are they'll cut you some slack, it is still under warranty, right? don't spend anymore cash than you want to. b16's have a lot of potential to outrun b18's. the head head itself is more reliable than the b18's.
no, they already told me that the parts caused the problem and it's not covered under warranty. I plan to raise some hell. First, I'm going to contact AEM and get them pissed at honda if possible, by telling AEM that honda told me thier parts caused my engine to fail (AEM CAI and a limited production AEM 2.5" catback exhaust) and see what AEM has to say.
Also, I'm going to tell honda if they give me my 1090 dollars back for my platinum extended warranty, I may not hire an attorney to sue the **** out of them. I'm sure AEM would be more than happy to help be build a case that shows AEM's products do not harm engines.
Besides, im getting the hookup on a brand new B16A2 with a turbo (going to replace the piston in mine, swap it with my friend and give him 2 grand for parts) and I'll have a 13 second car easy.

I would just buy a b18c1 shortblock and strap it to your b16 head.
If you are replacing anyway, might as well get some more displacement out of it.
