Question about Wiring Harnesses!!
Hey guys,
I am currently running an OBD1 B17a in my OBD2 1997 civic hatch.. My question is, is it possible to use an OBD1 integra wiring harness in my OBD2 car? What problems would exist with this? Thank you!!

No, you cannot use the Integra harness in a '96+ Civic. The '92-'95 Civic's (EG's) and '94+ Integra's (DC's) use a 2 harness system. There is one harness on the engine and one that's in the car. In '96, they changed the Civics to one harness. It connects to the same plugs on the engine but instead of transfering to another harness before getting to the ECU, the harness goes straight through the firewall and connects directly to the ECU.
I'm assuming you didn't do your swap or are just planning one. Your going to have to use your existing Civic harness on the B17A and get an OBD II to OBD I conversion harness to use an OBD I ECU. An OBD II ECU will be looking for sensors and signals your OBD I engine simply doesn't have. Seeya.

I am just wondering WHY you couldnt possibly run the OBD1 harness in an OBD2 car... i mean, would the OBD1 harness not fit throught the firewall? I already have the OBD1 ECU.. It seems it would be a much better solution than doing all of the plug swaping IE: injectors, distributor, etc.. Thank you very much!
You don't understand, it's physically not possible to use the Integra harness. It would be like trying to use the Integra harness in a Sentra, their just completely different.
Think of it this way, an Integra has a harness attached to the engine. At the strut towers, there are a series of plugs that go to a different harness that goes through the firewall and to the ECU. I call them the engine harness and in-car harness usually when I refer to them. If you remove your engine, the engine harness comes with it, the in-car stays in the car.
In the '96+ Civic's, the harness changed. All the wires concerning the engine all go to the passanger side there is no plug to switch harnesses. They just go through the firewall, down to the passanger side footwell and connect directly to the ECU. When you remove the engine, the entire harness comes out. You can swap an Integra harness onto the motor, but it will have no where to go. There will be no plugs on the acutal car to plug into. You could swap over the in-car harness from the Integra too, but you'll be removing the dash and about 5 million other problems. Seeya.

Ok thats what i needed to hear... I didnt realize that trying to swap out the IN-car portion of an OBD1 harness into an OBD2 car would be such a bitch! I was hoping i could buy both OBD1 harnesses and just run the in-car one through the firewall and directly to the ECU. My next question, is it possilble to switch out OBD2 harnesses? IE, use a 99 SI harness in my 97 dx... just curious. I am NOT interested in yanking the dash and dealing with 5million issues.. Thanks
I don't know the specifiics but they are the same style of harness, but different from '96-'98 to '99-'00. I've been told that a '99 Si ECU won't plug into a '96-'98 harness, slightly different plugs and some of the locaitons are different, I can't say for sure though. Seeya.

Yo ANDY! what up again? Thanks for your help... i was really hoping i could swap over to an OBD1 harness and eliminate all cuts and whatever else so i would be running everything obd1 in my car. Oh well... check me out if you havent all ready. This is my baby...

So you already have the motor installed? Is it running properly? I don't see why you want to conver to the Integra harness? What ECU are you using? I assumed you wanted to do the swap but hadn't yet. Seeya.

Hey andy, yeah im running a B17a w/ a OBD1 P30 Ecu... Since ive done the swap ( done everything myself) my car has been plaqued with various wiring issues and by installing a OBd1 complete harness i was hopeing to illimate that AND be running fresh factory wiring illiminating all splicing , etc. Also, i could sell my obd2-obd1 conversion harness for what a complete obd1 harness would cost. But you say it isnt possible, and after reading your posts i know that you have done this shit long enough to know so i guess ill keep my stock wiring ;( Thanks!
What wiring issues are you running into? What conversion harness are you using? Is something not working properly or are you having other problems? Seeya.
