Engine coolant temp sensor question?
Hi,
Have a 94 accord LX.
Want to check the coolant sensors. I note there are two, one on the upper rad hose / engine block,
the other on lower rad hose/thermostat housing.
I Measured the resistance with DVM and get open (> 10Mohm )
at 20C on both?
are these resistance type on the accord?. what should the reading be?
the engine does not overheat. and the temp guage is OK.
but I rarely hear the rad fan go.
The fans work cuz if I turn on the AC I see both run.
thanks for the help

I have that same problem. Only when I idle my temp gauge goes up past halfway mark. but when I drive off it goes down right away. So I know it has to do something with getting air to radiator. My fan doesnt come on at all with ignition on only when my engine is shut off.
When the engine is shut off and my cooling fan comes on once I put my key in ign and put it on the on postion the cooling fan shuts off. Is that normal with fan shutting off when ign is on?
I still dont know why my fan doesnt come on with ign on? When I turn the air on they both work. so I know the fans work. I was thinking maybe it was a sensor or something. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I have the same problem too...My radiator fan does not come on either on my 92 Civic - I have tried everything...I bought an OEM (made in Italy) temp switch and thought it didnt work because of that...I broke down and went to the Honda dealership and spent $32 on the part but the fan still does not come on - BTW - I also changed out the relay...another $30+
I turn the air conditioning on and the radiator fan does not come on either...I know the fan works because there are two wires that plug into the sensor and when i connect them together the fan turns on - hot or cold...
I have heard that it may be due to a blown head gasket which is fooling the temp sensor??
any suggestions - its gonna start gettin' hot out here in PHX!

hey, i have a 92 integra gs with somewhat the same problem. My motor is idoling super low, most likely from cracked piston rings affecting the combustion, but my engine was overheating a lot. At first it was a crack in the hose right behind the block that was just shooting out the coolant in a very fine squirt. I had a mechanic fix that small hose and it was good for about a month and then the leak became much quicker. I started losing ALL of my coolant within a day! The water pump blew so i replaced it. The problem went away, but came back a couple days ago. My best guess is that i have another crack in the heating/cooling hoses somewhere due to the age of the car. I haven't looked into the sensors yet so I don't know if that could be the problem also. So my advice is just to make sure all your hoses are clean and are holding there form. Check for any leaks on the ground or from the waterpump.
If yall have any other advice for my car just lemme know. peace
