Default Cams

I'm planing on swaping a LS motor in my 93 vx hatch, I was told that putting in racing cams would make a huge differece in the performance. Does anyone know how much hp gain a B18b would get? How much do they go for? How difficult are cams to install? Are there any side affects of getting them?

You might get a better resonse in the Engine Tech forum.

Cams can help to produce massive amounts of HP, but you have to get the right ones.

If you're swapping a stock LS motor and then putting racing cams in, you're not going to get all that you could out of the cams. Racing cams for that application would be way overkill imo.

Cams are very easy to install if you know how to replace a timing belt. I suggest you do it before you swap the motor cause it will be all that much easier.

Cams can go from ~$300 / set to thousands per set. You will also need to be sure to get the NON VTEC cams cause you're running a NON VTEC motor.

You don't have to, but it's highly recommended that you replace your springs and retainers when you do the cam, ESPECIALLY if you're going with a race cam.

Side effects: worse gas mileage, imperfect idle (racing cams), worn/broken springs/retainers

there are two things you do is get a aftermarket cam that makes hp to stock redline get and a stiffer spring and retainer set up to handle it or you get a race cam(witha higher lift and duration over the stock redline), valve springs, retainers, and chip it, just make sure not to high because the crank can only rev some high before that gives lol
