Default Ls/vtec Hp

How much HP does an LS/VTEC have? Not that it really matters because I'm goin type r nywaey but I'm curious because no-ones ever told me th HP lever for the frankenstien engine. How bout a B20/vtec?

ON another note... do you guys know the disadvanteges of the Ls/vtec? I'd get a b18c6 over a LS/vtec anyday

EDIT: a B18c6 DOES exist. So does a a B18c4

Default What's up?

It depends quite a bit on how the LS/VTEC is built, tuned and what components are used. A magazine (I think turbo) did an LS/VTEC with a B18A block and B16A head. They bolted it together, took it to a dyno and only spun 138 hp or something low. They got a V-AFC (or some fuel tuning computer) and leaned it out and got it back up towards 160ish. If your using a standard LS bottom end (no new pistons) your basically building a GS-R with slightly lower compression and marginally bigger displacement (little longer stroke). If you put the extra money and upgrade the internals and cams and such, you can make good power, but not from a basically stock LS/VTEC.

I know the other B18C's exist, I've never seen one. European versions I think. Seeya.

I'd go with the B18b over any type-r block. The type-r motors have hard to find aftermarket parts. Since the b18b motor is so popular with Integra's, there are so many parts for them directly and/or swap between b16's and other b18's. The type-r yes is a more powerfull moto, but it's not practicle if you intend to build on the motor like REAL racers. Race cars are not about what you can buy, they're about what you can build and perfect.

My team and I recently raced 3 ls/vtec inegras in a 30 minute road race. My dad is the driver and we use the type R engine, bone stock in a CRX. By the end of the race, the ls/vtecs were ALL blown, all three of them, our engine was still roaring.

Before choosing that enigne, we spent 2 months evaluating whichenigne would be the best. We though about a 1.6 stroked, LS/vtec, b18c1 turbo/blown, you name it. We looked through them all and studied the specs carefully and came to the conclusion that the type r engine is WAY better than the LS/vtec. The ls/vtec's bearing are'nt suited to the RPM that the vtec head will deliver.

If we were to get teh LS'vtec, we wouldev changed EVERY internal bit to to type R or anyway because teh type r parts are perfect for roadracing.

Bottom line... no matter how much you build the ls/vtec's internals, theres still some things that the type R engine has that the ls/vtec doesnt.

The R in type R stands for "race", te LS in .. LS stands for luxury sport, honda knows what engines they're building for what car. don't think people have discovered a new phenomenon by joining an ls shortblock with a vtec head, honda already though about that, trust me, I know... Honda already though about that.

Can't afford a type r engine? I can't afford to blow an engine
