engin help
I have a 97 gsr, with c-west body kit and jdm conversion with carbon fiber hood and 18 inch gunmetal enkeis. I think im done with all the exterior mods and now im trying to build the engin. But i have this problem, every 2000 miles i have no oil left and im not dripping or smoking from any where. So i am wondering if someone know what is wrong or has any ideas. Also i think im loosing some compression cause take off is slugish!
When are you checking your oil? If you drive around and then check your oil level, it's gonna head low cuz your oil will be all over the inside of your motor. The head alone will hold a quart or so. So let your car sit (on a level surface) for like 15 min before checking your oil level, and do a compression test.
either its burning or you are checking it at the wrong time, check it when it is cold in the morning and you havent started it, and after 2K miles you have literally now oil or is it about a quart low? If you use vtec a lot then a lot of dohc vtec motors tend to use a quart every 3-4k miles especially if you are running it hard, even new cars will use oil if you redline all the time....
actualy its no that i check it at the wrong time, the oil light comes on at 2k. and i dont redline all the time i actually drive nice during the weak but yeah i do push it on the weakends. I was wondering if the comp.test from honda is much better than one of those do it yourself home test? does anyoneknow?
i'm not sure what you mean by honda or diy but it is simple to do and all you need is a comp gauge which is buyable at most auto stores, you can pull a search and get all details, but the jist of it is pulling a plug, inserting guage, and spinning over, making sure of course you have a good charge on batt. you should get an even psi reading across the head, with no variances over 10 or so from cyl to cyl.
check for oil in your radiator. you may have a blown headgasket, especially if you feel that the motor has gotten sluggish.
as for a compression test, Honda wont get any different results as long as you do it right on your own.
all compression test are the same... a pressure gauge with an adapter connected to your spark plug hole.

the oil light does come on when its too late and mine did come on that, but nothing happened. i just want to prevent soemthig serious from happening. so far the oil light hasnt come on and i went to honda and spoke to someone, they told me that if the dip stick is dry that there is still 2 qt of oil in the tank.
