you won't see oil burning until you start loosing a quart in about less than 1000 or so miles - if your engine is starting to bog off idle, combined with the loss of oil it could be your valve guides. Make sure you pull out all the plugs and disconnect fuse to ECM before compression check so you don't dump raw gas into cylinders while you're cranking over the engine.
