well, i've been at bumnah's for a little over a week now. and because his turd has a bad bearing and his other beater's starter is out to lunch, i have had to take him to and from work a couple times. anyway, last night was one of those instances. so i'm rolling down this parkway to get him and i'm cruising with some trance. now God knows the last time i've been in a real street race is quite some time ago. and thankfully too b/c it seems like something always destroys the moment so i tend to stay out of trouble. well you know sometimes though you kind of wish it would happen right at that time. so i'm at a light and i see two cars approaching in my rear view and i think "wouldn't be funny if a mustang pulled up to me right now and wanted some." of course my mentallity was if its rice i wont even bother and if it does happen to be a mustang, the worst it could be is a GT. but i still figured none of that would happen. i mean come on what would be the odds that the exact moment that i crave for a race the oppurtunity just rolls up. well, SON OF A ***** that oppurtunity rolled up hard in the form of a mustang - but not a GT, no i wasnt going to get it easy this time. thats right folks a beautiful white 96,97 COBRA. i figured no way i'm dicking with this guy. but then as the light turns green he revs and when it did turn green. our normal first gear to get go end up getting tached out by the both of us and i was like f*** it. well needless to say round one went to me but not by much. and when i let off he kept going but probably in shame and disbelief, he let off and let me catch him. BAM, we kick it again from about 45 mph. same damn thing his DOHC 4.6L got owned by some VTEC. not by much though maybe half a car. im not going to bull**** b/c i know what those cars are capable of and off the line it would have probably been his race by about 2-3 cars (still respectable for the hybrid). now, back to the confrontation i was discussing. as i realized i had him that time me not being on a suicide mission let off far before it got hectic (100 mph+). and again he kept going and let off a little. now i should have gotten up from the table and cashed my chips in, but i lost perception at the moment. i figured hey, i just took a cobra twice and i got a little bit more before i get to my turn-off why not really shine him on. so my dumbass proceeded to pursue him. now this time he wasnt going to let me get next to him easy (i imagine he was doing 65 maybe 70 mph but still waiting for me) so i'm whaling on my way to get him and a car or two before i got to him i already heard him kick it so i just kept going.we were both gaining mad speed (i'ld guess we got to about 90 - 100 mph - which on a semi-windy two lane both way parkway is straight balling) and again i was passing him. but bam - a sudden turn. i'm an amature with turns truthfully and very aprehensive b/c a lack of handling abilities in my car. in hindsight though i think i could of just blown through it no problem. but i had to make a decision fast (its dark, unfamiliar road, lack of confidence in car, rained 2-3 hrs previously) so i steered into the curve and nailed the brake - WRONG F***ING MOVE. well actually it could have been worse seeing as how i know how to keep control of my car in the instance that it goes out of control. anyway, he keeps going and passes mey and i get s**tty all over that damn road and then glide into the median area which is V shaped so i went down then at the bottom i stopped eventually. now half way through this 90 - 100 mph to a stop slide i'm thinking i'm good i'm going to slide this one out and it will be all cool. as soon as i stop i restart the car drive up the median and back onto the road, but there it is - THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP. i thought i fried an axle or something. i continue slowly and at the next light the guy in the cobra is in the left turn lane but when he sees me he lunges out and gets next to me at the light. i say to him " no more dog, i think i fried an axle or some s***." he replies "oh damn, i was just going to turn around and see if you were all good." i was like, "yeah im fine but im done for the night, that was a good one though, have a good night." he was like "alright, later." so i proceeded on and picked up bumnah, told him the story, and we returned home doing about 45 mph the whole way with the hazards on. so im pissed to say the least im thinking this is going to set me back (which it is). anyway, this morning after inspecting it while bumnah's ripping apart his suspension to replace a bad bearing, i finally came to the answer. i got some Kosei K1's (most awesome wheel in the universe) with some Kumho's that are VR rated. anyway, i was going to fast and braked so hard i fried the tires and got flat spots on both sides. so the tire i purchased not more than six months ago to go along with my integra GSR front brake conversion are s*** and i just ordered new ones. $80 bucks down the drain, all that bulls*** completely took away from the victory of matching up against a COBRA.

to you guys i say - dont f*** with high speed races, know your limits and your car, and be careful with those Kumho's - they must have some real sticky soft rubber.

Sorry to hear about the tires, but just be glad that that's all it was. With my luck I would have blown a rod or something....

 

that happened to me a while ago on the stock michelins... I wasn't even racing either. I was just going too fast around a dusty road and ended up skidding because I slammed on the brakes and for a while I had that THUMP THUMP THUMP very annoying sound/feeling.

sorry about your tires but at least thats all that was hurt. congrats on beating the cobra. :thumbup:

 

damn i know that feeling as well. I lost control is a 95 mustang GT. That was the last time i raced on a wet surface. especially with rwd.

 

definitely no more high speed street racing for me.

Has happened to me on 75 here in Dallas, going 110+ against a GSR and all of a sudden saw something in the road, slammed on breaks, locked up front wheels and put out a cloud of white smoke that covered the entire southbound side of the hwy. It was so bad that it took the tires(which were no more than 2 weeks old at the time) down to the steel belts.I was able to get within one block of my house before the drivers side blew. Sucked ass too.

 

umop-apisdn: i got a hatch w/ gsr swap. its got lightened flywheel and clutch as well as a skunk2 mani w/ my stock throttle body bored out to 64 mm by RC engineering.

now i got some more bad luck:
went to the track this last weekend and broke an axle. i got a 14.30 to begin w/ then the next run i broke that s*** and had to let off half track. i still ran a low 16 though.
