Default Car won't accelerate past 5000 rpm...

I have a 00 GS-R with about 58,000 miles on it. Today when I was driving, I tried to accelerate, and as soon as I hit 5,000 rpm (VTEC engagement) my check engine light came on and I cannot get passed 5,000 rpm. Drivablility under 5,000 is normal, but I cannot go above. Last month I advanced my timing a bit and adjusted my valve lash, so I don't know if that may have something to do with it. Please help !!!!

Since the check engine light came on there is an error code in the computers memory. Find out what the error code is and then address the issue.

Your ECM is in limp mode, which caps your RPM and prevents VTEC from engaging. Pull the code(s) and deal with them, then reset the ECM.
