Default cam or n2o?

i have a d16y8 running 9lbs on a jackson racing supercharger.

gears 1 and 2 are strong and pleasing but it drops off after that. if i lose a race to a turbo car its almost always them catching up on the high end and passing. i need more in 3rd and 4th.

so my question is, without a rebuild what will increase my high end the best.

should i go with a cam lobed for a supercharged setup or go with a 35 shot of nitrous to run in 3rd and 4th.

initial costs will be about the same for both setups, but nitrous i'll have to refill, so in the long run will be more costly.

advice?

Default also

i'm plannin on getting another project this summer, would like to keep spending on this car to a minimum. i'm not going to get much more out of it with out a costly rebuild.....so i'd say you're answers should be budgeted to $600.

install will be free so dont include that.

The cam would give you about 20 horsepower at best, and thats with with an adjustable cam gear, and you'd also have to get it dyno tuned to squeeze that much out of it.

A 35 shot of nitrous would probably put down 50+ hp to the wheels instantly working alongside the Supercharger.

Nitrous would be the way to go. You could also find a tranny thats geared longer than your EX's. The d15b7 (DX) tranny when mated to a d16z6 or d16y8 , has a 1st gear that goes over 40mph, a second that goes to over 70mph, and a 3rd gear that goes to almost 110 MPH. Im not sure what 4th will go to.

The trannies are like 100 bucks or less. And You could probably find a cheap ZEX wet nitrous kit on ThePartsTrader.com for 300 - 450$ depending on the accessories.

Default n2o

i am leaning towards the 35 shot because a cam would always be in use and affecting my already depleting gas mileage, to where nitrous would be a controlled loss of fuel economy.

when asking around i've been told two things:

1. a 35 shot will blow your motor up since you're running stock internals and 9lbs of boost already

2. you'll be fine with a 35 shot, it may actually be better for your motor and supercharger since spraying into the intake will cool down the air so much

oh i've also been told i could run a 50 shot and be fine, which i think is a little extreme and very risky.

again i'd only spray in 3rd and 4th, maybe very seldomly at the top of 2nd.

If you have the nitrous id spray in all the gears, Racing someone with a good top end, you can spray in low end and put a gap between you and them and make them play catch up the entire race.

Spraying in 2nd would let you kick some ass.. especially from like a 40 roll.

Go nitrous man.

I'm going to build a hybrid tranny for my Y8-turbo and I am going for SHORTER gears.

You can argue with me all you want but I will bet my car that if I put a DX tranny on there, I'll go slower.

cam, easier on the engine, and with the supercharger the gains given by it will be much greater than the cam by itself.
