Default Buying a used eclipse stock turbo

I read an article in honda tuning magazine that you could buy a T25 turbo off a totaled eclipse, do some rigging and welding, and slap that puppy on a d-series. It said that the turbo puts out 12 psi, but that too much for a stock d series. So they recommended doing some work to the wastegate so it only puts out 6 psi. So, I figure, if i'm going to try this (just for sh!ts), would I have to go through a ton of work to make that D series stable to 12 psi?

I want to do this, just because I have a D16y8 laying around...

A D series can handle 12lbs of boost if it's properly tuned, but you might want to get some forged internals. As for the T25, you can tweak the actuator and get it to open the wastgate between 6-10lbs of boost, or you could run an external wastegate. If you just want to be able to run 12lbs of boost safely, get some rods, pistons, a standalone, and get it tuned.

Forged rods and pistons should be around $800. If you have an OBD-I ECM, Hondata S200 with boost retails at $495 base. Add tuning cost to that, and add the cost of options like datalogging and 3-step if you want those. You'll need some larger injectors if you go with a standalone. I would recommend DSM 450s, which you should be able to pull from the same Eclipse you get the turbo from. Snag the injector clips too, unless your car/harness has OBD-I clips. Then you'll need a resistor box, unless your car runs peak and hold injectors. Honda resistor boxes can be had for around $30, sometimes less. If you don't want to buy a Honda resitor box, you can wire some 7-8ohm resistors inline with your injector clips.

cool, but do I really need the hondata system? If this was going on a car that I really cared about then I'd get the hondata stuff....

You can get an AFC to run the 450s if you don't want to spring for Hondata. You can set it at -40% across the board until you can get it tuned.
