Oil can burn if the valve seals or piston rings are worn.

It's not the head gasket. SOHC Honda engines are known for severe valve guide wear as they get older, becuz of the angles at which the valves are positioned. The rings won't normally go bad unless you run it low on oil. My D16A6 has 181,000 miles on it, I autocross it regularly, and the rings are still doing fine (2 cylinders are zero leakdown, the other two at 3% and 4%).

You can replace teh valve guide seals, that will fix the oil burning problem for about 10,000 miles, but the seals will wear out quick cuz the valve guides underneath don't support the seals. The only way to fix it for real is to put in new valve guides.
