Default Q: for all you smart people i.e. inspyril & Mr. Fatbooty. etc.

I have got almost everything to get my motor done.:naughty: All I am waiting on now is my gsr block. I just got my skunk2 stage 1 cams and my b16 head is done. (stainless steel valves, dual valve springs, titanium retainers and some porting). I was originally going to just build my b16 but you guys starting talking about the b18b crank and rods with gsr block and you got me all excited. I have a b18a1 that I am using the crank from. I want to get some Eagle h-beam rods from a b18b (if it will work). And I think I have to send my pistons back. Here is my question, I have SRP 11:1 comp. pistons for a b16 std. bore. what compression would I be at if I just put those in. (probably way too much) I know if I put standard comp. for the b16 I will be at about 11.1:1. also I didn't get a lightened flywheel. I don't know if it will be good or not.

Let me know what you guys think I should do and what ever comments you may have. (good, bad, whatever)

Note: everything will be ballanced so it should be pretty sweet.

Well, the compression ratio would end up around 12.3:1, which is pretty steep but nothing unrealistic for 93 octane pump gas. You'll just have to have good tuning.

As for the whole idea, I'm kind of up in the air about it. The Skunk2 stage 1 cams seem to fit well with the short stroke of the b16, but at the same time displacement is always good. For peak horsepower numbers the straight b16 route would most likely be better. The b18a crank will put a bit of a damper on your safe rev limit but should put you well over 1.8 liters of displacement and will offer a higher, flatter torque curve and more power down low.

would I be better getting a b18b crank or are they the same?

B18A/B cranks should be the same.

If it is all ballanced it should be okay, but I am going to get lower compression pistons.

Do you know what the dome displacement on the piston is? I'm just looking at the SRP catalog and they they have pistons with a claimed 10.5:1 CR in a B16, from a 5.7 cc displacement. That's less displacement than the stock PR3 pistons which have a 6.01 cc displacement and give a 10.2:1 CR. So if those are the pistons you have, the CR will be more around 11.5:1 which is not too bad.
