Hacking up a Turbocharger?
Is it possible to seperate most turbochargers? I'm talking about seperating the compressor section from the exhaust turbine. If I were to remove the exhaust turbine half, would the compressor half still be sealed? About how thick is shaft in the center?
(Yes, I have a crazy idea

Yes, you can seperate the compressor from the turbine. They're basically just bolted to the CHRA. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish, but if you're thinking of connecting the compressor wheel to some sort of shaft and have it belt-driven, just get a centrifugal supercharger.
agreed. your idea is sound, but the only way it works is with gearing to accelerate the compressor wheel's speed. all centrifugal superchargers are geared, since 8000rpm driven directly from the belt is not nearly enough to generate more than 1-2psi.
