Default dash lights on passport

Hi all,

I have a '95 Passport. When I start the engine, both the brake light and the battery light come on and stay on (very dim). The dealership checked it out and said it was the battery failing - so I replaced the battery. It's still doing it. PS-when I first bought it in '95, the model had a recall on the alternator for some similar problems. I had that replaced. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks-TC

I think older ECU's they had to be reset before a trouble light (like the battery) went off. I dunno about the brake light though....is it the parking brake light or the ABS brake light?

Depending on the layout of the lights in the dash, you may be seeing bleed-over light.

For the brake light, check your brake fluid level first and if all is fine there, check to see that the brake safety level switch [attached to the resevoir cap] is working correctly, if so, check the emergency brake switch.

For the battery light, the only thing that will cause that to come on is when the battery fails to charge, whether it's caused by a dead battery, bad alternator, loose connection, or a weak short in the charging circuit. You may also want to check all of your under-dash fuses while you're at it.
