stock ignition w/ high compression??
I am building a a b18a resleeved to 84mm with rods and pistons and gsr head. I am looking at around 12:1 compression. I was wondering if the stock ignition is powerfull enough to run this setup. I have heard stories ofo both sides saying no or yes because cylinder pressures are to high to ignight the fuel. And others saying that hondas ignitions are strong and should support it no prob... I figured I would ask all of you honda junkies what you think
thanks in advance.
thanks in advance.
Use hondata and you'll be fine.

Hondata only allows you to tune the timing map of the stock ECU, it doesn't affect the strength of the spark.
That said, the stock ignition should be able to deliver adequate spark for your motor. If you want to get some more juice I would look into an MSD Blaster coil and one of those distributor caps they sell that comes with an external coil post already installed, i.e. this:

I originaly was going to go with a 6al but then I was hearing people say that it would help out but the stock was more than fine..
my buddy has hondata 4b. which hondata would I need for him to tune my ecu for me. The setup is going into a 89si but I am converting it to obd1. Unless I can leave it obd0 and still tune it with the hondata, also will he be able to tune my ecu if his hondata has the boost option or does it not matter (only an extra option) but if I leave it obd0what ecu do I go with or can the original 89si ecu work in conjunction to the hondata?

You would have to rewire to OBD1 to use a Hondata ECU, because they only do OBD1 ECUs. To tune another Hondata you don't need the actual Stage 4 ECU, just the software and chip burning tools that come along with it. Also, Hondata has since updated their systems and no longer sells the original Stage 1/2/3/4 ECUs.
You may also want to look into a ZDyne Gold Super ECU, it's fully programmable (runs like $1000 I think) and I feel is superior to the Hondata because you can directly download programs from a laptop instead of continually reloading changes into an emulator and then burning a chip once you're satisfied. Plus they specialize in converting non-OBD computers.

yea, they go for around 1g. I looked into the zdyne and feel as if I would have to go standalone. when you say download programs, do you mean like skunk, mugen etc, programs or just the programs that you create. Do they even give you a starter program that you can tune off of? I have read some about zdybe gold on their web site but still not to sure exactly what it has to offer.
