Help needed, 91 accord
91 Honda Accord LX, 215k mi, 16 valve 4 ci.
The motor was making a terrible rod knocking sound for a while. It just started out of the blue one day. It seriously sounded like a diesel. Then it died on me. Engine would turn over, but no spark.
I got a SES light and the code came up ignition related, and these cars are known to have crappy distributers, so i checked into that first. I found i was getting no spark. After i checked every fuse and whatnot twice, i thought about it a little longer and decided to check if the distributer was even turning, well it wasn't. So i pulled the valve cover and noticed that the Cam Gear had snapped off the cam. It was actually the cam itselfe that snapped off where the bolt for the gear goes thru.
I'm guessing this was from a valve/piston collision and i prolly need a new motor. Should i pull the head to inspect things, or just pull the whole motor assuming it's prolly trashed?

How do things look when you peek thru the sparkplug tubes? You might as well pull the head and check things out. Pulling the head isn't that hard, and if you end up having to pull the whole engine, it'll be easier to do so with the head already off.
Take out that crappy SOHC engine and get yourself a H23A (DOHC prelude engine) I've got a 91 with the prelude engine and i love it. Pick up a JDM for $800 CDN. About $500 US. Best think I ever did. Plus it is a straight bolt in except for some extra pin outs. Plus the tranny bolts right on. Top speed approx 140 mph.
