cam gear questions

Default cam gear questions

as u all know, i posted up a thread in here a while ago about Jun cam gear for the sohc y8. here is my question... can i still use my stock cam shaft or do you know if JUN makes one for the y8 as well? an how hard is it to install it? i have the manuals... but do i need to mess with the valves???

I don't think JUN makes a D series cam. As for installing a cam in a SOHC, you would have to remove the lost mostion and rocker arm assemblies to get to the camshaft. Yes, you would need to set your valve lash afterwards.

:doh: so i guess it's better to have a professional to install it? cuz i've read other people's posting on the valve adjustment... and it's quiet confusing.... since mostly are dealt with the FEEL process. do you have any site perchance that will be more informative in details???

That's for a B18C, but it's the same process for a Y8, except you don't need to make/buy a tappet adjuster tool. All you need is a 10mm box-end wrench, a flatehead screwdriver, and feeler gauges.
