oil leaking
whats up people..
i have a leaking problem and im still trying to see why its leaking. The return line off my turbo that goes to the oil pan has drops of oil on it. The people i got the steel braided line from said that its because the downpipe is too close to the return line. The down pipe is pretty close to the line. I got the fittings pressure tested and they are fine.Still i have oil leaking, its not a lot just a little. From what i have heard, its natural. about 5 of my friends told me that you cant really stop it, but i still dont think this is right. I mean id like to be able to find a way to make it stop leaking. I dont think that the tap in the oil pan is messed up, but i might end up taking that apart just to make sure. has anyone else had this problem?
thanks

Are you sure it's not coming from your pan? If you reused you oilpan gasket, it might be leaking there and dripping down to your drain line. Mine leaks there. I have a new gasket that'll go in whenever I decide to redo my drain fitting/line.
im not sure if its coming from the gasket. when they put the turbo on they changed it out with a stock one from honda. It just seems like it doesnt start leaking till i start to drive fast.
um im not really sure what you mean... the bung on the oil pan was welded up. the only part that is leaking is where the fittin actually goes into the oil pan. the fitting from the turbo itself isnt leaking... how would i know if the person that welded up my oil pan didnt seal it up all the way? im thinking of dropping the oil pan and gettin it rewelded.

im not really sure what kinda fitting they got welded onto my oil pan.. i just want to try everything before i drop the oil pan... they put high temp apoxy around the fitting on the outside of the oil pan. im not really sure if that helped it or not.
i still havent dropped the oil pan, would the fittings being so close to the downpipe have any affect on it leaking? Im not really sure where everyone else taps the oil pan, but mine is pretty close to the downpipe. its not even a 1/4 inch from it. It seems to be gettin worse. I think i need to get the line and fittings checked one more time. Is anyone elses return line that close to the downpipe? I havent really havent looked at how anyone else has theirs.
Most of the time you want to avoid the downpipe when routing your drain line. Mine, however, is like yours and runs directly above my dp. I'm running some standard rubber hose and barb fittings for my drain line, and I don't get any leaks from them. I do get a slight leak from above where the drain fitting in the pan is, and it looks like it's coming from my oil pan gasket. If you're running a braided line for a drain, it should be able to hold up against the heat from the dp just fine, but you may want to wrap it with som ThermoShield or that fire jacket stuff. My rubber drain line doesn't touch my dp, but it's pretty close(about 1/4" clearance like yours), and it holds up fine.
damn.. thats kinda weird.. then maybe it is my oil pan or the fitting. The funny thing is that on my steel braided line i just replaced it, and the one i replaced it with had discoloration. i got it pressure tested and it started to leak. The funny thing about the leak is that it starts out slow and gets big. Like with the new line and fitting and the other one. it didnt really leak then started to leak more.. That why i always thought it was the line itself or the fitting. If they didnt weld up the oil pan all the way up, like had a small hole in it. would it get worse in time? or would it just pretty much stay the same constant drip of oil? Oh yea and also is there anyway i can patch it up without taking the oil pan off?
thanks
