If it's leaking around the fitting in the pan, then I would assume the weld isn't completely sealed. The best thing to do is to drop the pan and have it rewelded, like you said. Or, you can try your luck with some high temp silicone adhesive like Permatex or Hondabond. Many people run bulkhead fittings in their pans. They just drill the hole, and bolt up the bulkhead fitting,a nd seal it with high temp silicone sealant.
