Default squeeching sound in engine bay

i get this on and off sqeeching sound from the engine bay. i usually hear it after i've been driving around. engine has only 20,800 miles on it. after driving, as i sit there in idle, i hear the squeeching sound (high pitch) on and off. it also happens when i gently place my foot on the gas or gently tap the brakes.

my guess is it's either coming from the aem cai. i can hear the sound clearly when hood is down, but when the hood is up, it's hard to hear the sound. any idea where it is coming from?

i woulda said it's the drive belts (if it happens during startup when cold) or the brakes if you're driving in stop/go traffic alot. if the skreeching is loud & irritating, like it's embarrassing, then get it checked out. but if it's kinda low volume, then it might be the air passing thru the throttle body & it's butterfly valve, same principle as whistling.

well, it only happens after the car is warmed up. drive belts was one of my presumptions. as for soundwise, it's just irritating and can only be hear after the car is at idle. i'll swap out my aem and put my stock airbox in and see if the problem still arise... if not, then for sure the aem is the culprit... but if it still does... then could be the drive belt.

any other ideas?

my friend's alternator went out on his '95 Civic, bearings went bad & it made a skreeching sound.

ur selling the Y8 alternator right? if it's the alt that is the culprit.. then i'll probably just replace it with a GSR.. since it'll make more power.... i think~ besides.. car still under warrenty.. so gonna make honda do their job... lol.

You might want to doublecheck the interchangability on that GSR alternator. To my knowledge, B series and D series alternators are not compatible. Then again, I could be wrong.

 i think u may be right on that one chris. so what other options are there to make the alternator stronger? cuz i read ur other post about how y8 has some weakass pulley and stuff like that.. so just hoping to get more power from there.

There was a service bulletin out for Civics manufactured in 97. Some of them had low alternator ouptuts due to faulty internal voltage regulators. This problem was resolved in the 98 model year, and does not affect the 99-00 models. The Y8 alternator I have is off a 99 EX.
