I heard that there are negative things, but was wondering if it's just like chance that disaster happens and depending how well your block is built. I have one being installed on my rebuilt LS block.

They lessen the the mass of the rotational assembly, so they should help the engine rev up faster. Most are also underdrive pulleys, and slow down the accessories, which also lessens the load on the rotational assembly. I've heard that most of them don't have stock timing marks, or that the ones they do have are inaccurate. Other than that, I'm not really sure what the negative aspects are.

Yuck. timing marks would be uhh... ESSENTIAL. lol But if u wanted to... Get it to tdc before u take the pulley off, put the pulley on... It should still be at TDC. Then start it up and shoot the ignition timing... Provided that u never moved the distributor, you will know how close the timing marks are... or where to mark it in the case that they didn't put marks on it...

Personally... I'm not big on pulleys... I understand how they work... But I don't think you get a whole lot of performance out of them. Instead of buying pullies, I'd go refill the bottle a few more times HAHAHA. ;-)
Oh yea... I don't have a bottle yet. :-(

LOL

Well i got a really good deal on the pulley. As far as the timing marks, I know i'm gonna have to use a sophisticated timing gun, forgot what it's called. Anyhow... the motor will be installed next week, cant' wait....

The essentials:
B16head
3angle valve job, milled .0030, crower springs and retainers, ferrea valves, GSR cams, skunk2 sprockets, ITR IM,
B18a block
ITR .25 pistons, rebuilt block including vtec bearings, lightened pulley
S1 tranny
ACT HD PP 6pad, 12lb flywheel
Skunk2 chipped p28

Typically they aren't worth it, but yes.

I picked up an aftermarket pulley beacuse I have neither AC nor PS... lost 4 pounds going to a 1 belt pulley.

The biggest thing to watch out for is making sure the pulleys are well made and ROUND. Some aftermarket pulleys have poor manufacturing tolerences, and others do away with any vibration damping whatsoever. A well made pulley will not have an negative effects, but a poor pulley could cause some serious issues. Before anyone asks, no, I don't know which are good and which aren't, because I choose to find power elsewhere.

I know when my friend put his Unorthadox Racing crank pully on there was a slight difference in power. Its one of those products that helps out a little more with each mod you do. It helps the engine rev up faster, but also lets it lose rpms faster, think of it as the same way a lightened flywheel works.
