Default Help me find an oil leak ;-)

Anybody know a good way to find an oil leak on the topside?(head and everything that goes on it)

It's on the passenger side. New distributor w/ new seals/ring.

I'm thinking about using that stuff everyone talks about that u put in your oil and run the engine and use a blacklight to see where the oil is leaking, but is that stuff damaging to your engine at all?

Thanks,

Harry

It's a blacklite-responsive dye. Goes into the oil, drive for a couple hundred miles (give the dye plenty of circulation time), and check. The dye shouldnt hurt the engine, but it wouldn't hurt to give it new oil.

In that other thread, you said you car is only thirsty on the high lobes, I'd think it had something to do with the solenoid (as you said) but I gather you tried that. Is there oil anywhere on the engine? Maybe your valve cover / valve cover gasket is fooked.

Well... it got a new valve cover gasket and that's when I saw the problem lol

There's a small chunk of metal that's been taken out of the valve cover... not purposely... it looks like it just broke. it's on the outside though, but maybe it can still leak a little.

What sucks is I don't want a new one because I spent a ****load of time polishing the one I have.

BUT... The oilpan still leaks... leaks like a faucet. So basically what I thought was just 1 leak is actually 2 separate leaks. :-(

Thanks,

Harry

Honestly, like a stock Honda rod under 20 psi of boost, I'm broke. :-(

So I'm going to get the oilpan gasket fixed next week then see just how much oil I'm really losing through that gasket and go from there... Obviously I will hafta fix it some time but like I said I spent way too much time on that valve cover to just throw it away... I may try to fill the hole with JB weld... maybe a big wad of silicone... hard to tell but I'll figure out something.

that suckors, oh well, **** I've gotta spend $2300 to get my front (thats right only my front) floor welded up. In case you are curious I own an 86 crx which has never been registered in my name. At least you have a "car", never mind all the vtecky goodness.
PS If anyone has an 85 - 87 crx for sale / trade (with absolutely no rust) let me know.
