Default 93 civic losing power at 3k and up hills

It accelerates fairly well up to 3k in every gear fine then either maintains speed or even slows down as the rpms go up. Yet, the engine keeps revving up (along with tach). When going up hills, it is chugging to make it up, and loses speed, even if i downshift. The clutch feels good, <15k on it. I replaced the fuel filter, no change. Engine is stock. I've searched around this site for and help but nothing helped. Fuel pump works, but haven't checked the pressure. Never hard to start. Any recommendations or ideas? Thanks.

If you have a manual, then there is a direct likage between the engine and the driving wheels... This means that the rpms cannot possibly go up if the car is slowing down, unless the clutch is slipping...

But you say it has <15k on it? Either it wasn't replaced properly or it is defective.

thats what happens to my civic... ur not slowing down... u just have less power going up the hill.. I would check the Fuel filter,, which is a commonly forgotten filter.. as ur RPM's go up ur engin asks for more gas. If ur fuel filter is clogged engin won't get the gas as fast as it wants.. then u go slower up hills.. also change your PVC filter.. it won't make a drastic change but it helps.. u can feel it.. I'd put my money on the fuel filter.. tho

cradlerockkid: read my first post again. I already changed the fuel filter.

Update: Local mechanic said it could be the timing belt, distributor, or semi-plugged muffler. So far, I have put on new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor since they were pretty old. Still having problems. I'm checking the exhaust tonight.
Also checked my CEL and got code 9 (CYP sensor). I did some searching on here and many have said its a bad distributor or connection. Just wondering if my symptoms point to a bad dizzy at all. No local junkyards have any used ones. I might have to pick up a new one for ~$115.

If your engine speed is definately increasing while your vehicle speed is not, I would say your clutch is slipping or at least your clutch is not engaging fully due to a sticking clutch master/slave etc... There really isn't anything else that would cause this symptom.
