Default Losing Power in High RPMs

I have a 1994 Honda Civic EX Coupe with a Japanese B18C in it. We changed the clutch and Flywheel over the weekend and then it started Idling funny. We couldn't find what was wrong with it. We reset the ECU and then idled fine. When I drove it on the freeway I was in 5th gear with the throttle down then it suddenly was losing power. The RPMs dropped and I pumped the throttle several times and no response. I down shifted to fourth and then the throttle responded. Went back into 5th and it was fine. Doesn't happen all the time but sometimes happens in 4th gear as well. Would anyone know what the problem is? Please Help

How old is the distributor / plug wires / plugs?
Sounds like inconsistent spark so far...

Has the Check Engine lamp come on?
If so, have the codes scanned and check back with us.

Lastly... moved to Engine Swaps.

And welcome to the board.

I got the engine installed around 3 months ago. I changed the distributor, plug wires and plugs 3 days after. NGK wires, Denso iridium plugs and Bosch distributor. I just diagnosed it again awhile ago. When it was losing power and the RPMs started to drop I clutched in and kept my foot on the gas. The RPMs bounced back and forth between 3000 and 3500. The check engine does come on but not right away. It takes awhile for it to come on, sometimes never comes on. I do have a broken speed sensor, don't know if that has anything to do with the check engine light.

Broken VSS would cause a check engine light, but there may be more than one code.

Did this happen at any time before you installed the clutch and flywheel, or only after?

My speed sensor was already messed up before the engine swap. The speedometer was bouncing all over before we even changed the clutch/flywheel. But the check engine light only came on after the clutch/flywheel installation. I had a mechanic check my clutch. He said everything was alright.

my lsvtec was doing that for a while until i changed my tranny to a type R, but i kept the same clutch and flywheel only difference was that i bled the clutch and it hasn't happened since then!! you may need to change the brake fluid for your clutch and bleed it to get any air out of the line, especially if it wasn't doing it before you changed the clutch and flywheel!!!

I'll try that. Thanks! If anyone else has a suggestion please let me know. The problem still exists. I had a mechanic check it out and they said the CEL is because of the speed sensor. They also told me my car was idling funny because of my TPS. I still have to install the speed sensor and TPS. If that doesn't work I'm going to bleed my clutch.

Default if it was not doing it before

Then the problem is the flywheel and clutch. Im guessing you bought a lightweight flywheel? But u definitely need to get the speed sensor fixed coz it sends that signal to the computer. Hey, i think we just solved it. The computer is getting a wrong signal due to the broken
VSS and the computer might be reading that your car is going too fast and the computer is cutting off either gas or spark.

I might be having the same problem but i haven't had my car around me for about a year. I came to find out that my o2 sensor never got changed over from my swap so it still has the stock o2 and not plugged up. I have to buy a new one. I don't know if that would change anything but hopefully i will be finding out in about 2 weeks when i go get my car

Well, I got my TPS replaced and it fixed my idle. My car still loses power when I floor it in 5th or 4th gear, between 4k and 6k rpm. I haven't replaced my speed sensor yet. My CEL is still on. Just waiting to buy my speed sensor and install it. Maybe it will fix the problem and maybe it won't. But I'll also look into the O2 Sensor.
