would the checkrume plugin cause a solid cel?

If you don't remove the checksum routine, it will most likely throw a code.

I didn't have issues with it throwing a CEL until I switched to real-time emulation.

sorry to jack but: Provocateur, what rtp did you switch to and did it throw a cel after you removed the checksum routine?

I switched to the Ostrich and at first, it was having issues with the checksum routine not being removed and constant CEL's with no code. You want to make sure you are running the most recent version of Crome and that all your plug-ins are up to date or you will most likely have issues with the checksum routine.
