Default Hey you guys in CA need some info regarding smog with a swap

I have a lead on a nice crx in another state. It has an engine swap I believe a b18c1? GS-R engine?

Is there anything special I need to get it smogged and registered in CA?

Any information would be helpful. I know virtually nothing about this.

thanks in advance

To register it in CA you have to take it to a State Smog Referree. He will do a visual inspection and make sure all the correct smog equipment is there, and make sure the engine looks like it belongs in the car. Then he'll put it on the rollers and sniff test it...if you pass, you get a nifty BAR association sticker for your engine bay, saying the smog is legal. Then you can take it to any smog station and have it smogged, but it must be reffed first.

hmmm.....here in the Bay Area, they don't use the rollers. Make sure your vacume lines match that of the car the engine came from. When I took my car to the state ref, he told me you have to upgrade your smog equipment to the year of the motor. For example, if the engine was from a 98 GSR and it was dropped into a 91 CRX, you have to convert the car to OBD2 to make the swap legal.

My roomate's bar sticker is in his engine bay, on the strut tower. Yes I have swapped a few motors, and they passed.

Okay so do you need to put on your stock air box or can you roll in with a CAI? I know my 94 Accord with a 95 H22a1 will pass. But the CAI is buggin me.

As long as the CAI has a CARB sticker on it, and the part # matches the one for the car when they look it up, it's all good.

Should the CAI match the car or the car that the engine was taken from!?!?! thats one question we forgot to ask the ref, but our accord passed with the accord AEM CAI, which sucks ass on an H22 i must say.

Well I got me a generic Short Ram with no Carb sticker on it. I guess I'll have to drop my OEM air box in just in case when I go
