Default B16a boost or b18c block?

Currently been running a b16a in a eg hatch for a few years as a daily driver, spent several months redoing the interrior and got it a cheap 300 paint job, have some new wheels arriving soon and going to work on suspension.

current bolt ons aem cai, trust exhaust and a hi flow cat.

There is a junk yard near by that has a 18c (block only) for 200. How difficult and reliable is to swap it out with my b16a? building the poor type r. (on a college budget) and need a daily driver though .

Would it be more cost effective to do mild boost with a junk yard/ebay turbo set up?

"block only" do you mean it's just the bottom end or b18c5 long block? If long block, does it come with any warrenty?
I would much rather build the b16 then buy some un-known junk yard motor.

What's your budget?

its just the bottom end. I figure it would give me a little better point to build up from. My budget is 500. So i was figuring block+pistons+labor

You mentioned you use the car as a daily driver, College student budget, cheap turbo kit, junk , All of those criterias sounds like it will end a disaster.

I'd just enjoy the car, save enough money where you can afford to lose a motor and be okay. If not, You're going to regret trying to upgrade your car when you didn't have the funds to back it up... Trust me.

But... if you must, build your b16a1, That b18c5 bottom end could've been blown, warped, spun a bearing... who knows! it's a junkyard block.

You could try and get them to assure you that its good. If so, buy it and hold onto it until funds permit. Then you can build it in the background and swap when you finish it.
