Exhaust question
Hi Expert out there ~!~!
I like the free flow of straight through system exhaust . . but i don't wanna go against the law and polute the enviroment
I was wondering . . a cat back exhaust system . . will it allow better flowing of exhaust gas compare to the one where the cat is right after the header ? ? ?
Ignorance question
Cat Back exhaust issit something thats on the EF series civic ? ? ? and if it provide better flow then issit possible to install a cat back exhaust system on a EG series civic ?
And . . can someone tell me roughly how much bhp lost using a 'approved' exhaust (with cat back and OEM sound cancellation muffler) compare to a straight through exhaust ? ?
Lastly . . issit possible to get a free smooth flowing 'quiet' exhaust system ? ? ? if yes . . recommendation please

a cat back exhaust is any exhaust that bolts on after the cat. full piping and everything. gains from an exhaust are minimal. 2-5 hp if you're lucky.
haha but nvm i've learn something new
until today i thaught that the exhaust system on the EF civic (with 2 90 degrees bend type) is something called the cat back exhaust system
haha what a shame
ThaNkzZzZ for correcting me
but are you sure that exhaust system will only contribute 2-5 bhp ? ? I think it should improve much more then that
the stock exhaust is quiet restrictive. aftermarket ones have smoother mandrel bends and different packing materials in the muffler giving you different sounds. if you want an OEM exhaust get the stock ITR exhaust. less restrictive than most other Honda exhausts.
I think what he's saying is that he has a close-coupled cat, and was wondering if replacing it with a standard cat would give more power.
If so, the answer is YES. It should make quite a difference, actually. But the main gains will come from the header design, and not the rest of the exhaust.
With your current exhaust system, the catalytic converter is bolted to the engine with only a very short 4-1. What this does is allow the cat to heat up to operating temp as fast as possible, which keeps emissions to a minimum at startup. However, it absolutely molests your powerband.
I'd suggest picking up a quality 4-2-1 header, a high flow cat, and a good mandrel bent exhaust. The power differences you'll see on an SOHC engine for highflow cat vs. test pipe will not be worth the harm you would do to the environment.
