Default is royal purple a good way to go?

i decided to put some 5w-30 into my b16a swap. i have heard alot about it from race people and tv shows. now i am looking to start doing some scca racing and figured it would be a good way to take care of a nice engine and keep it running up to par.
i was also thinking about doing the royal purple gear fluid for my manual transmission, but i would really like some input on it and see how some other people who are running this type of fliud in there cars like it?

do you guys think it was a smart move. i mean it is expensive but you cant really put a price tag on qaulity specially when it comes to your engine and taken care of it. or atleast its how i feel.

the engine has roughly 50,000 miles on it.

thanks
nic

Hmm. With 50,000 or more many people will tell you that it's a bad idea to switch since the engine is "used" to running with conventionals, assuming that's the case of course... Synthetics are always better oils than conventionals at cooling and lubing, and Royal Purple is for sure one of the best if not the best you can get.

I personally don't think it's a bad idea to switch since I had no problems when I switched to synthetics in my D16Z6 that had over 200,000 miles on it. And I don't think it will hurt anything to use the gear oil, but you should keep checking to be sure. It's more likely that it'll be advantagous.

Royal Purple is highly overrated, IMO. I use Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic and Redline MTF.

My engine has 152k, BTW, so these "myths" about switching to synthetic causing problems are just that.

i am constantly checking the fluids since i just bought the car, so i dont know exactly how well it was taken care of or if you can even beleive the person. so i am very cautious and i take extreme measures. when i did my tune up yesterday i found that the spark plugs were all different brands, well not all but there were 3 different brands. so i was highly pissed and ended up callen the guy and ask him wtf is going on..

but now the car idles alot better and seems to have more tourq to it then before..
plus my gas mileage is a hell of alot better.

thanks for your guys's comments.
