Default headers on 96 civic dx?

I know the prob with my dx and putting headers on is that the catalytic converter is in the actual header i have now. I was wondering since i already have a thermal cat-back exhaust would i be able to go out and buy some ex headers like dc sports or something like that and then get a hi flow carb legal cat and get a shop to cut the actual catback so they can go from the header directly to the catalytic converter then to the exhaust? is this possible and if so about how much u think it would cost. I could put the headers on myself not a problem but i was wondering for the cat how am i gonna get an o2 sensor too it or is there only one o2 sensor for my civic like just in the header. Please help me im trying to come up with ideas for this thanks.

Yes, you can do that. If you have a DX coupe or sedan, you can get an EX header, cat, and exhaust to be 100% bolt-on, but yeah, you can get an EX header, whatever cat, and have your piping shortened to bolt up the cat. You should have 2 O2's, and if you run an EX header, your primary will go in there, and the secondary will go in the cat(exiting end). If you get a universal cat to have put on by a muffler shop, you can get one with the O2 bung already welded in.

yea , i had the same problem on my 97 DX, what I had to do was get the EX headers, they fit...... then use one of my original O2 sensors with an adapter, then had to buy another.... I got an aftermarket universal cat, and it passed smog..... but you will feel much more of a difference when you put the headers on the DX as opposed to EX or Si because those ones already have sort of headers on there and the DX has the cat right by the front restricting it from there......
