I love my LSVTEC. They are as reliable and as fast as you build them. I haven't heard many good things about gude though.

Default What's up?

Hey aut0tek, I was flipping through my Helm's manual the other day looking for something (I though I blew my head gasket) and I found some specs for the oil pump and water pump.

The VTEC B18C1 oil pump displaces 75qt/minute and the LS non-VTEC pump only does 53. Also for the water pump, they both do 148qt/minute but the VTEC does so at 7600 rpm and the LS at 6000. I knew I remeber reading that somewhere. Seeya.

First off...spend the money you would spend building you head on building your bottom end. Second
the B20 and VTEC B-series have the same oil pump, the B18a/b is wussier, but you can shim it to puto ut more pressure.
the waterpumps are totally different, I wasn't sure when I bought them if it'd be worth it, but the gear on the vtec one is a good 5mm wider than the non vtec one.

after reading this it sounds like you could have one bad ass b18c1 w/ the amount of money that it would cost to build a reliable ls/vtec.h:

Andy: Well someone goofed because I just looked them up again after u said that... the 1998 Integra Type-R oil pump vs. the 1993 integra LS oil pump... Same Part number. :-/

I wonder wtf is going on.

Harry

edit: DURRRR... I think I might have an idea on the oil pump... the gear on the VTEC one is bigger right? I'm just looking up part number for oil pump with everything minus the gear. The gear must be what makes it pump more/faster. If u think about it, it really does make sense... at any given RPM the one with the bigger gear will pump more.

Whatcha think???

Harry

wrong autotek...the smaller gear pumps more oil because there is less area for the belt to cover on a smaller gear meaning the gear itself spins faster...like if the crank was at 2000rpm and the gear was half the size of the gear on the crank it would be spinning at 4000rpm and vice versa

You're kidding right? This post was made when I was a Freshman in College dude, jesus. Talk about resurrecting a dead thread. That was 4 years ago.

Digging hard to tell someone they're wrong. I was 19 years old back then, I'm now a 23 year old Staff Seargent.

But thanks for clearing that up.
