Default nonvtec-vtec head?

Hey i have a dx i was wondering to increase power should i get a vtec head. Also how much hp would that increase and how hard would it be to install. The second thing is would i need a new ecu for that? The last thing is does anyone know how the venom 400 module works and if its even worth the money? thanks

You can get a VTEC head (epx has 2, if you'll looking for one). Should give you somewhere around 10-15 horse with no other modifications. The other 10 horse would come along with a VTEC intake manifold, VTEC style header instead of the close coupled cat, etc.

It isn't easy to install but not difficult either. You'll need to properly seat a headgasket and do some wiring.

You'll need a VTEC ECU, yes.

Venom 400 is totally worthless, don't even waste your money.

all of the 88-02 D-series SOHC 1.6L engine blocks and heads are interchangeable, just like the B-series DOHC engine parts. If you want more power out of a DX, honestly your best bet is going to be just putting in a complete D16Z6 or D16Y8. The DX blocks have a shorter piston stroke, so whether or not you put on a VTEC head, you won't have the power of a stock Z6 or Y8 engine.

If you want to stick with a SOHC engine, a good engine combo to go with to get more power than a stock SOHC VTEC engine, is to combine a D16A6 block (88-91 CRX Si) with a SOHC VTEC head. The A6 block uses slightly domed pistons (sohc vtec engine has dished pistons), so you get higher compression than a stock SOHC VTEC. And if your civic DX is 92 or newer, a SOHC VTEC ECU will plug right into the existing harness. You'll probably need to wire in two more injector wires, though. If your civic is 88-91, Zdyne makes an ECU conversion so that you can install the VTEC head, and it will run with all the factory safeties and fuel curves and such.

Hey, I am doing my mini-me setup right now, but as I was rebuilding the bottom end in this 91 DX block (D15B2) I broke a chunk off a piston. The only thing that is available at this point in time is a 95 DX block (D15b7). The PM3 and PO3 pistons are said to be exactly the same but marked different for the newer OBD-1 block they came in. I need to get this running now, and that block is all I got. Do you think the piston is the same CR (compression ratio?) as the '91?? I need to know quick. They look almost exact but looks can be decieving.. Someone help me out while Im here.
